Miss Melody worked for six summers at Bay Cliff. She began in 1978 as a counselor in Unit III. She returned in 1980 to be the Recreation Instructor. Bay Cliff was privileged to have Melody for the next four years (1981-84) in her professional capacity as Physical Therapist. Afterwards, Melody provided key suggestions for the design plan of the PT/OT Therapy Building constructed in 1986. Melody’s husband, Greg, also worked at camp in 1983. An endowment fund has been established in Melody’s name.
Melody L. Oakley (Cermak), August 18, 1955 - September 6, 2010. Melody Oakley, 55, of Battle Ground, Washington, passed away September 6, 2010. She was born in Columbus, Ohio to Herbert and Florence Oakley. She earned her BS Parks and Recreation from the University of Colorado at Boulder, her Certificate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, and her MS Physical Therapy at St Louis University. Melody worked as a Pediatric Physical Therapist and was a specialist in Pediatric Neuro-Development Treatment (NDT) and was a member of the Neuro-Development Treatment Association (NDTA). "Melody was instrumental in helping many handicapped children overcome their disabilities throughout her career." She was a volunteer firefighter for Fire District 3 in Brush Prairie, WA and a volunteer Paramedic for North Country Emergency Medical Service (NCEMS) in Yacolt, WA. Melody enjoyed gardening, reading, music, traveling, cooking and outdoor activities. She was a regular in the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Ride and the Hood to Coast Relay. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Gregory Cermak; son, Matthew and daughter, Theresa of Battle Ground. Also survived by her parents; and brother, Mark Oakley of Columbus, OH. There will be a celebration of Melody's life, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Northwood Park, 16407 NE 15th Ave., Ridgefield, WA. Memorial donations may be made to Bay Cliff Health Camp, Big Bay, MI (www.baycliff.org).
