Mike was born March 20, 1951 in Marquette, a son of George M. and Margaret June (Boesler) Altmann, Jr., and was raised in Marquette. He was a 1969 graduate of the Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan Technological University for a time before enrolling at Northern Michigan University where he received a degree in biology. Mike continued his education at Michigan State University, receiving his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1978 as one of the original members of the UP Medical Program. He currently provided radiology services to various hospitals throughout the Upper Peninsula through Marquette Radiology. He loved his family, cherished close friendships, cared for those entrusted to his practice, and loved animals. He was in love with life and always had a good and ready smile. In his leisure, Mike loved sports, especially Northern Michigan University hockey, and was an enthusiastic fan of Detroit Red Wing hockey and Green Bay Packer football. He enjoyed sailing, photography, astronomy, gadgets, and traveling, especially to Hatchet Lake Lodge in Canada and yearly travels to Kona Village Resort in Hawaii. He loved a good cup of coffee, a good joke, and spending time with special friends at monthly game nights. Mike fully exemplified the oath he swore as a doctor, "May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help." He will be missed and remembered.
