Mary Margery Holman, 81, of 401 Kirkpatrick St., Palmer, died at home at 7:09 AM on Monday, June 20, 2011.

Mary was born April 7, 1930 in Negaunee to Samuel and Mary Olive (Vincent) Thompson, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1948. Following graduation, Mrs. Holman worked at a factory in Detroit for 2 years. She returned to this area and has resided in Palmer for the past 59 years. Mary was employed as a sales clerk for Palm Bottle Gas, Levine's Department Store and Handy Grocery prior to her retirement.

Mrs. Holman was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee. She and her high school classmates formed the knitting group "Knitten Kittens," and have been meeting since 1946. Mary was also a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and shopping, but most loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Sidney T. Holman, 3 sons: Roger (Joette) Holman and Brad Holman, both of Palmer, Bryan (Jodi) Holman of Northland, 1 daughter, Becky (Steve) Dale of Negaunee, 6 grandchildren: Nichole (Bill) Munson, Heather (Brett) Sandstrom, John (Cindy) Holman, Colette (Jason) Vallee, Alexis (John Meyer) Holman and Mike (Amy Day) Dale, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Robert C. Thompson of Negaunee, 1 sister, Helen Marsh of Waterford Twp, numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Bernice Alexander and Dorothy Sokolowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Thursday, June 23rd at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee with Rev. John J. Shiverski officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 AM until the time of services at noon at the church on Thursday.
