James Paul Brodersen, 57, of Vulcan, MI. passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at his home.

He was born April 15,1954 in Iron Mountain, MI. Jim was a 1972 graduate of Kingsford High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in music education from Northern Michigan University. Jim's career began as a professional chorister with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and continued as an assistant professor of voice for colleges in Haviland and Dodge City, Kansas. Prior to his retirement, he taught music for the Gwinn and L'Anse public schools and as a case worker for Michigan Works.

Jim's life was singing and teaching and he shared his gift freely. In recent years, he was a member of the Dickinson County Community Chorus and his talent in music was used in ministry at several churches throughout the local area.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Eric (Gemma) Brodersen of Marquette and Jonathan Brodersen of East Lansing; a granddaughter, Amelia of Marquette; his mother, Georgia Brodersen of Vulcan; brothers, David (Donna) Brodersen of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Daniel (Cathy) Brodersen of Vulcan; a sister-in-law, Carol (Juan) Papaleo of Marquette and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10:00am until 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
