Gail Celeste Matthews Fain, 91, of Holly Hill passed away Saturday August 13, 2011. Gail was born February 2, 1920 in Scranton, PA. She graduated from the Moses Taylor Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton and served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during World War II and the Korean War. Following her service she moved to the Halifax area in 1953. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach, Halifax River Yacht Club, the Junior League where as a sustaining member she participated in Bundles Coffee for many years and she was a former member of Oceanside Country Club. Gail loved to bake cookies and brownies and was known as the cookie lady at Bishops Glen where she had lived the past five years. Predeceased by her daughter Betsy Fain Bryant, she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Charles Fain and a stepdaughter, Loretta Parzenti of San Diego. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach. Donations may be made to a favorite charity.
