MARQUETTE, MI. - Elaine Frances Carriere Kuhn, age 83 of Marquette, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2011. Elaine was a resident of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans since August 2010. She was a lifelong resident of the Marquette area.

Elaine was born October 4, 1927 in Marquette to the late Donald and Rose (Bertrand) Carriere. She graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1945. After graduation she worked for Stern and Fields as a bookkeeper and secretary.

On September 22, 1947, Elaine married John L. Kuhn of Marquette in St. John's Catholic Church. John and Elaine had six daughters. After her children were raised, she worked part-time as a bookkeeper for the Marquette Pharmacy and then for Bell Roofing until her retirement.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 63 years, John L. Kuhn; daughters, Kathryn (James) Stelzel of Jupiter, FL, Mary Patricia (Daniel) Johnson of Big Bay, MI, Constance (Robert) Ohlund of Moreno Valley, CA, Jacqueline (Raymond Sharkey) of Marquette, MI, Joan (Stephen) Cardinal of New Holstein, WI and Karen (David) Ristau of Woodbury, MN; ten grandchildren and three great granddaughters; two brothers, Donald Carriere of Bemidji, MN and Jude (Mary Ann) Carriere of Harvey, MI; a sister, Mary Anne (Dennis) Zyskowski of Clare, MI, also many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were a brother, Paul Carriere and two sisters-in-law, Margaret (Bedien) Carriere and Winifred (Mancini) Carriere.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 13th at 3 p.m. in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Friends may call at the Bishop's Room of the cathedral beginning at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Elaine's family sends heartfelt thanks to the loving and caring staff at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans and also to Lake Superior Hospice for the wonderful support and care of Elaine during the last months of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Activity Fund at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans or the Lake Superior Hospice Association.
