W. Duncan Reese, 69, of 409 E. Ridge St., Marquette, entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 13, 2010, in Marina del Rey, California following a six-week illness.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he will be lovingly missed by his family and friends.

Duncan was born in Marquette, Michigan on September 21, 1940. He grew up in Manistique, Michigan graduating from Manistique High School in 1959. After serving in the United States Army for two years in 1960-62, he attended Northern Michigan University, graduating in June of 1966 with a degree in Elementary Education. On June 15, 1963 he married Karen M. Demers at Saint Francis De Sales Church in Manistique Michigan.

After graduating from Northern, Duncan taught for the Republic-Michigamme School District for 28 years retiring in 1994. He taught primarily the fourth and sixth grades. While teaching, Duncan returned to Northern and earned two Master's Degrees. He then worked for the Michigan Education Association as a UNISERVE director for 7 years. He retired in March of 2001.

Once retired he enjoyed international travel wintering in Australia/New Zealand. He spent many hours volunteering by assisting teachers preparing for retirement. Duncan was also active in the Michigan Democratic Party and served for many years on the Blue Cross Board of Directors.

Early on in his career, he and a special group of friends formed a stock club (REIC) where they invested monthly after lively debate and discussion. Many of these friends remain close to this day. Duncan was an avid Packer fan. He enjoyed traveling to Packer home games for more than 50 years, sitting in the same seat since 1965. He was also a long-suffering Red Sox fan, and he was proud to have seen the Sox win TWO World Series!

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Neil and Louisa (Sibley) Reese, of Manistique, Michigan. He is survived by his wife Karen (Demers) of Marquette; his daughter, Heather (Doug) Anderson of Marquette; his son, Brody (Jill) Reese of Uxbridge, Massachusetts; three granddaughters, Holly (Anderson), Sarah and Haley (Reese); a sister, Louisa (Reese-Kolch) of Manistique; a sister-in-law, Arlene (Gary) Macfarlane of Gladstone; brothers-in law, Lyle (Betty) Demers of Wells, Russell Demers of Manistique, Doug (Paulette) Demers of Manistique, David (Flo) Demers of Manistique; a niece, Allison (Roger) Helman of Houghton; nephew, David Kolch of Linden, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Carolyn (Joe) Giguere, George (Vicky) Sibley, Tom Corkin, and David (Bonnie) Corkin.

His other favorites include: Brett Favre, Roger Federer, Bob Dylan, "War" by Edwin Star, "The Charge of the Light Brigade" by Tennyson, owning the North End Tavern, the cabin on Lake Michigamme, Drifter, the Stock Market Channel, cooking gourmet meals, the beach, CNBC, reading, and whoever is playing the New York Yankees.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will also be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Larry VanDamme officiating.

Pallbearers will be David Kolch, Michael Meldrum, Lou Gembolis, Michael Macfarlane, Earl Eliason, and Roger Helman.

There will be a luncheon served in the St. Michael Parish Center immediately following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial to Bay Cliff Health Camp, Peter White Public Library, St. Vincent de Paul, Saint Michael Catholic Church, or any other charity of your choice.
