Ann Marie Hammar

Ann Marie Hammar, age 83, of 612 Poplar St. Ishpeming passed away at 3:33 am on Wednesday July 6, 2011 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming following a courageous battle with cancer.

Ann Marie was born January 9, 1928 in Duluth, MN to Carl Phillip & Agnes (Nord) Nelson. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1945. She received her nursing degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Duluth.

Ann Marie worked for Bell Hospital for 40 years as a registered nurse retiring in 1987. She was a member of the American Nurses Association. She was a faithful and active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. Ann Marie enjoyed knitting, reading, playing bridge, traveling: especially to her son Allan's in San Diego every year since 1982. She also had the opportunity to travel to Japan, Sweden and England among other places. Ann Marie had great enjoyment watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching countless number of basketball games.

Ann Marie is survived by her 3 sons: Thomas (Debbie) Hammar of Ishpeming, Allan (Doris) Hammar of Chula Vista, CA and James (Cheri) Hammar of Lake Elmo, MN, 2 brothers: Bernard (Mary) Nelson of Caro, MI and Paul (Stephanie) Nelson of Ishpeming, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ann Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur "Hype" Hammar in 2009 and a brother Carl Nelson.

A memorial service will be held 4:00 pm on Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with Rev James Fegan and Rev Eric Hammar officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friend at the church on Monday from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 4:00 pm. A luncheon will be held following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church in memory on Ann Marie Hammar.
