BIG BAY - Abbey A. "Gibby" Johnson, 81, of 1749 County Road KCI, Big Bay, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, June 9, 2011.

She was born on May 21, 1930 to Dewey and Dorothea (Williams) Fraley in Johannesburg, MI. She married Donald C. Johnson on May 8, 1948. Dan owned and operated Donald Johnson Logging in Big Bay and Gibby worked as the bookkeeper. A loving wife and mother, Gibby devoted her life to raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, berry picking and playing scrabble. She was a member of the Marquette Gospel Tabernacle in Marquette and taught Sunday School for a number of years.

Gibby is survived by her five sons, Daniel (Mary Pat) Johnson of Big Bay, David (Linda) Johnson of Marquette, Donald Johnson of Bellingham, WA, Kenneth (Kathy) Johnson of Marquette and Roy Johnson of Marquette; two daughters, Janice (Daniel) Valley of Bellingham, WA, and Annette (Ken) Kirkman of Ferndale, WA; eleven grandchildren, Tom Johnson, Mike Johnson, Dave Johnson, Derrick Johnson, Melissa Schroeder, Michelle Johnson, Daniel Valley Jr., Matthew Valley, Kevin Valley, Nathan Valley and Emily Kirkman; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Dewey Fraley; and sisters, Darlene Hobbs, Irene Roach, Connie Varty and Joyce Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2005; three brothers, Gary, Richard, and Buddy Fraley; and two sisters, Carol Jean and Betty Beaudry; and a grandson, Bradley Johnson.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 4:30 p.m. at Water's Edge Church, located at 1228 Presque Isle Avenue, with Pastor Charles Tooman officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until time of service at 4:30 p.m. Following the ceremony, a meal will be provided in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made in the Powell Township Cemetery, Big Bay.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bay Cliff Health Camp, P.O. Box 310, Big Bay, MI 49808. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all family, friends and rescue personnel who assisted them in any way.
