Nicole L. Smith, 26, of Norway, died Sat. Jan. 15, 2011 in Marquette. She was born on Jun 12, 1984 in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Ronald and the late Diane (Swentner) Smith.
Nicole graduated from the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District in 2009. She had a strong faith and carried her Bible with her whereever she went. Nicole won many trophies for bowling and swimming in Special Olympics. She enjoyed spending her Friday nights at the races in Norway and her summers at Bay Cliff Health Camp. She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church and enjoyed holding her Grandpa Arden’s hand will attending services. Through the Starlight program, Nicole was able to meet her favorite ice skater Scott Hamilton. In addition to watching ice skating on tv, she also liked to watching cooking shows, and classic shows like the Brady Bunch and the Waltons. Some of her favorite movies were Rocky, Dirty Dancing, and Coal Miner’s Daughter . She shot her first deer with the help of the Buckmasters organization. Nicole also enjoyed babies, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and babies.
She is survived by her father Ronald Smith, two sisters Amanda (Randy) Simmons of Gwinn and Sarah (Daniel) Sena of Beulah, MI, one brother David Smith of Petosky, grandparents Arden and Rosalie Smith of Iron Mountain, Jim (Gloria) Swentner of Neenah, and Duane (Marilyn) Fayas of Iron Mountain five nieces and nephews Aaliyah, Haylee, and Brayden Simmons, and Melody and Evelynn Sena, many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Nicole was preceded in death by her grandmother Annette Fayas, and her niece Ava Simmons.
Visitation will be Sat. from 10am-12 noon at Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. Funeral services will be Sat. at 12 noon at the church. Rev. Jim Danielson will officiate. Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
