Summer Therapy Camp - Information for Health Care Professionals PDF Print E-mail

The Summer Therapy Program

For more than 50 years, Bay Cliff has provided an intensive summer therapy camp program for children with physical impairments.  The program is based on a medical-rehab model; children ages 3-17, who meet our eligibility requirements, can be referred for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, and for instructional programs for the visually impaired and hearing impaired.  The residential program is seven weeks long (3 1/2 weeks for preschoolers) and gives children opportunities to work towards therapy goals and participate in summer camp fun to increase their abilities, independence and self-confidence.

  • Do you know a child who may be eligible for our summer therapy program?

Our camper referral process for Summer 2010 is underway.  We don't want any child who might be eligible to be missed!  Please take the time to review the eligibility & referral information on this website, consider the children on your caseload and call Bay Cliff with any questions.

  • Would you like to join us at Bay Cliff this summer as a staff member, volunteer or visitor?

Are you a therapist or a nurse that is available June 13 through August 8, 2010?  Consider joining our staff for the summer.  Additional information is provided on our employment page, including "Why I am a Bay Cliff Therapist" testimonials.  If you know a therapist that may be interested, please take a minute to tell them about our program by sharing the attached flyer with them.

Do you have some time to volunteer this summer?  Professionals with great skills are useful at various times during the summer.

Health care professionals that work with our camper(s) outside of camp are
welcome to visit camp.  It's a great opportunity to have a tour and see
camp in action, join us for lunch, and collaborate with the professionals who are
working with your camper at Bay Cliff.

Professional Development Opportunities

As Bay Cliff grows into a year-round program, we are offering professional development opportunities for therapists and could be a site for the professional development of other health care professionals.

Bay Cliff has started this endeavor through the development of "The U.P. Pediatric Therapy Workshop," which was offered in April 2007, July 2008 and April 2010.  We're looking forward to planning another for Spring 2011.

A variety of inservices are provided during the summer for Bay Cliff's therapy staff.  Area therapists are welcome to join us for an inservice, and can even come early, have lunch with our campers and see camp in action.  If you are interested in joining us for any inservice, please contact us to let us know you're coming.  The schedule for Summer 2010 will be posted here:

          Wednesday, June 30 at 1:00pm - 2:30pm: "Assistive Technology in the U.P."
Sara Menzel, ATP is the manager of UCP's Assistive Technology Center
in Marquette.  She will be sharing the latest in assistive technology with us and
have devices on site for therapists to try.

          Wednesday, July 14 at 9:00am - 2:30pm: "SPIO"
Darla Hunt will be traveling from Kent, Washington to share information about
Stabilizing Pressure Input Orthosis. In addition to the presentation, there will be
patient demonstrations and the opportunity to try the SPIO with some of the Bay
          Cliff campers.

As more inservices are scheduled, details will be posted here.

Bring Your Program to Bay Cliff!

Bay Cliff Health Camp is also a wonderful year-round site to hold a health & wellness program that you have a part in developing.  Great examples of possibilities, that have become reality, include a camp for kids with prosthetic limbs, a camp for kids with diabetes, a family camp for kids with hemophilia and a training camp for Special Olympic athletes.  Bay Cliff developed a health & wellness retreat for polio survivors, which can be used as a great model for any chronic condition.  If you have an idea for a health & wellness program that you would be interested in offering, contact us today!
