Date of Death: March 2, 2018

Thomas E. Alberts, age 74, of Appleton, passed away at his home on Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born on November 24, 1943 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, son of the late John and Florence (Hafner) Alberts. Tom graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1961 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country for three years. While in the Navy, Tom sailed on the USS Arneb, an ice-breaking expeditionary ship to Antarctica to deliver supplies to scientists and return findings to universities. On November 28, 1964, six years after he met Carol M. Schoen, the two were married at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in La Crosse. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, a son, and 53 wonderful years. Tom was a black-belt in Tae Kwon Do; he had a private pilot’s license; and was once a member of the Corvette Club. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing, reading, and had a special passion for woodworking. Tom was a very passionate, loyal man, with a great sense of humor. He was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Carol; his daughter, Melissa (Rob) Edwards, Sycamore, IL; his son, Mark (Brenda) Alberts, Fremont, WI; his grandchildren: Jacob and Shannon Edwards; Saylor Alberts; a sister, Karen Alberts, La Crosse, WI; brothers: John “Jack” Alberts, Spartanburg, SC; Bernard (Kaye) Alberts, Marshfield, WI; Donald (Carolyn) Alberts, Wilmington, NC; nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Henry and Dorothy Schoen; and brother-in-law, Louis Schoen.

A Memorial Service for Tom will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Neenah’s Westgor Funeral Home. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Military Funeral Honors will be performed immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home. Thomas will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
