Ruth E. Sarvello, age 96, a longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Thursday March 22, 2018 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette where she had resided since January of 2015.

Ruth was born March 5, 1922 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late William and Susanna (Koski) Nyman. She was a graduate of Ishpeming High School class of 1940, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. In 1944 she married Salvatore “Tudy” Sarvello in Ishpeming and they set about raising their family. Ruth worked as a payroll clerk for CCI and retired in the mid 1980’s.

Ruth was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Ladies Guild. She served for many years on the Ladies kitchen crew at the church. In her later years, she enjoyed her daily coffee meetings with her friends at McDonalds in Ishpeming. She often traveled to athletic events involving her grandsons, and great-grandchildren in Wisconsin and downstate. Ruth was an avid walker and could often be seen on her route from home around Lake Bancroft and back. In her earlier years, Ruth and Tudy traveled to Rome, Hawaii, and made several trips to California.

Survivors include her son – Salvatore “Butch” (Joan) Sarvello of Marquette, grandsons- Michael (Paula) Sarvello of Green Bay and their sons John of Green Bay and Anthony (Anna) of St. Paul, MN; Scott (Lisa) Sarvello of Clawson and their children- Cody and Garrett of East Lansing and Alexis and Brooke of Clawson. She is also survived by a sister-in-law June Nyman of Houghton, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband – Salvatore “Tudy” in 1999, a son Paul in 1992, great grandson – Dylan Sarvello, 5 brothers – Waino, Eino, Reino, Arne and Ben Nyman, 3 sisters – Lempi Vanderbent, Lillian Miller, and Helen Hoiem.

Ruth’s family will greet relatives and friends at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday April 7, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Larry Van Damme as celebrant. A luncheon will follow in the K/D Hall. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ruth’s great grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Church Ladies Guild in memory of Ruth.
