Margaret Ruth (Laukka) Wartman, 73, longtime Milwaukee resident, passed away March 18, 2016 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
Margaret was born October 3, 1942 in Negaunee to Axel and Elsie (Mattson) Laukka and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1961. She moved to Milwaukee in 1963 and started her career in housekeeping at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, a position she held until retirement.
Mrs. Wartman was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her free time loved traveling with her husband, Lowell. They were lovers of country music and enjoyed visiting the Grand Ol Opry. Margaret was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, and was a loyal season ticket holder of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Surviving are her brother, Alan Laukka of Fountain, CO; sister, J. Pauline Hill of Kingsford; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Laukka of Negaunee; nieces: Carla Koepel, Charlene Laukka and Renee TenEyck; nephews: Kevin, Lorin and Dr. Mark Laukka and Peter Hill; special friends, Shirley and Allen Velie; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell Wartman on July 7, 1991; brother, Carl Laukka; brother-in-law, Robert Hill; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Laukka; and a nephew, Dr. Robert Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, July 11th at the Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee with Rev. Thomas Wickstrom officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm at the funeral home on Monday, and also at a luncheon at the Immanuel Lutheran Church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Mrs. Wartman’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
