Clyde Stevens

Date of Death: December 7, 2018

Mr. Clyde worked at Bay Cliff from 1944 to 1952. He was a counselor, but he was most known for being the Archery Instructor, a role he served for most of his summers at camp. “He rigged special bows so campers with limited arm control could shoot. Some used their feet. On rainy days, Stevens switched the classes inside and spent exciting sessions helping the campers make arrows fro their bows.” (an excerpt from the book, A Place Apart – The Bay Cliff Story, (1983) written by Dixie Franklin.) The 1955 Bay Cliff Yearbook was dedicated to Clyde Stevens. Clyde was a teacher at the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, MI. He married the former Helmi Bakka (Lepisto) who has also worked at Bay Cliff for many years. The Stevens Cottage at camp is named in Clyde’s honor and memory.
