Bette A. Alexander, age 87, of Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday afternoon, June 28, 2018, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.
Born May 20, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of James and Kathryn (Fox) Coughlin, Bette was raised in Milwaukee. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee and, following graduation, continued working as an operator with Wisconsin Bell Telephone, a job she held part time while in high school. She met her future husband, Mose Alexander, in Milwaukee, while he was employed at the post office and she was employed with Bache Investment Company as a secretary. Bette and Mose were married on June 24, 1965 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marquette, and together made their home and raised a son, James, in Marquette. Bette was employed for over 26 years with the J. C. Penney Company in retail sales, and retired September 1, 1999. Her interests centered around her grandchildren, playing cards, especially Smear, and participating in bingo. She was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, having served in both parishes as a lector. Bette was also a member of St. Christopher’s Women’s Club.
Bette is survived by her son James (Lisa) Alexander of Marquette; and her grandchildren, Analiese Reagan, Elijah James, and Christian Isaac Alexander; and several special friends. Bette was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Mose.
Friends may call at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Monday, July 2, beginning at 10:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Rev. Greg Heikkala, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
